HCI College Launches New Optometric Technician Program to Prepare Students for Careers in Eye Care
BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – September 1, 2026 – HCI College is expanding its career-focused healthcare education offerings with the launch of a new Optometric Technician diploma program, designed to prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and hands-on training necessary for entry-level positions in optometric and ophthalmic practice settings.
The 10-month program was developed in response to a need for trained eye care professionals in the Fort Lauderdale area.
“Our goal is to provide students with career pathways that respond to the needs of the communities we serve and the healthcare industry,” said Michelle Lambert, M.Ed., RDMS, Vice President of Academic Affairs at HCI College. “The development of our Optometric Technician program reflects our commitment to working with industry professionals and subject matter experts to ensure our programs are aligned with real-world industry expectations and workforce needs.”
The Optometric Technician program will be offered Monday through Thursday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. onsite, providing an evening schedule designed to give students the opportunity to pursue their education while balancing work and other responsibilities.
The program development has been supported by Vanessa Rivera Nylander, Optometric Technician Instructor and experienced eye care professional.

This profession has given me the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others, provide for my family, and continue growing both personally and professionally. The launch of the Optometric Technician program represents another step in HCI College’s efforts to provide accessible, career-focused education aligned with workforce needs in South Florida.
