Dallas, Texas – January 27, 2021 – LockedBrands, maker of personal lockboxes combining smart technology and modern design, has conducted a successful equity crowdfunding campaign on the WeFunder platform, raising more than $193,000 to date. The campaign closes soon.

 

LockedBrands was founded in 2017 with the goal of creating a portable, personal lockbox to secure prescription drugs and personal valuables. LockedBrands’ first release was the Pillar, a stylishly designed portable safe that is voice-activated and app-controlled. 

With Secure Med Manager (SMM), LockedBrands has taken the smart technology of the Pillar further, developing a device specifically to secure and dispense pharmaceuticals for the patient, at home. Secure Med Manager is a portable, affordable medication management device and Telehealth Hub. Each dose is dispensed only to the patient in a pill pack, and only per the doctor’s prescription. All dispensing information is logged and saved in the cloud. The Secure Med Manager can help to prevent overdosing and underdosing, and it helps ensure medication adherence, providing peace of mind to all those involved.

In 2017, the US Department of Health and Human Services declared a public health emergency due to the opioid crisis. Nearly 70% of drug-overdose deaths in 2018 involved a prescription or illicit opioid. As Monger sees it, the stakes of securely managing prescriptions for highly addictive medications are extremely high. 

With Secure Med Manager, LockedBrands offers a system that is secure and easy to use at home while also being affordable and portable. “The ability to monitor usage without disturbing [patients’] everyday routine is a massive benefit for many reasons,” says Dr. Jeffrey Narmi, MD, member of LockedBrands’ board of directors. “I could see the SMM being tied up with huge healthcare systems as a way to provide help to patients at home and cut back on overall healthcare costs due to opioid misuse.”
