Anji explores various bamboo applications to build green circular economy

The Third International “Bamboo Industry · Bamboo Construction · Bamboo Culture” Green Development Peak BBS and 2019 National Bamboo Design And Construction Competition Award Ceremony kicked off in Anji, a county of China’s Zhejiang Province, on December 8.
Bamboo has been widely used in many public buildings and urban environments in China recently.

“The bamboo industry in Anji has realized biochemical utilization and chain management within the 40 years,” said Song Bo, acting county head of Anji.
“There are still challenges to introduce bamboo into large-scale construction, and a lot of work needs to be done in basic scientific research, standard establishment, professional training and public awareness promotion,” noted Liu Kewei, coordinator of global bamboo construction project of INBAR (International Network for Bamboo and Rattan).
At the ceremony, 2019 National University Bamboo Design and Construction Competition individual awards were announced, and the second Anji International Bamboo Product Design Competition was launched simultaneously.
Anji is known as “the first bamboo township in China and the hometown of China’s chair industry,” with the total output value of bamboo industry over 22.5 billion in 2018.
The county has issued series of measures to accelerate the transformation and upgrading of bamboo industry and increase the industrial cooperation between the east and the west in China.
